South African Local Government Association (SALGA) acknowledges that audit outcomes remain a challenge in municipalities.
SALGA’s Free State Executive Officer Zwe Ndlala says they will implement a multi-disciplinary approach towards the improvement of audit outcomes in municipalities. He says efficient and effective municipal finance management and an unbiased governmental system need to be created, this is following the two days members’ assembly conference held in Bloemfontein.
Ndlala describes the conference as a success. There will be a SALGA anti-corruption summit held on 27 November. He says they will ensure that local government, rather than private developers, lead economic development and investment.
“The provincial members’ assembly has to consider SALGA’s business plan and budget for 2014 and 2015. We should also look at the review of the organisational performance. The agenda that we are driving is fully informed and influenced by what our members expect from us,” he says.
Ndlala says municipalities will adopt disaster management plans by June 2014. He says they need to require a sustainable approach by addressing service delivery challenges.
