Mrs Bfn finalist gives back

Some of the girls at Therapea Girls’ Home with the Cheetah mascot

This past weekend, Mrs Bloemfontein finalist and a proud resident of the City of Roses since 2000, Veronica Steyn, hosted an outreach at the Therapea Girls’ Home. The home is a place of safety for 21 girls.

According to Steyn, the outreach was aimed at painting one of the bedrooms in the house that hosts seven girls from age 8 to 13.

“Prominent Paints sponsored the paint we used and since it was a girls’ bedroom, shades of pink were used,” she said.

Steyn told Bloemfontein Courant that the Free State Cheetahs were also involved with the outreach. “They sent three of their players and the Cheetah mascot. The players helped with the painting of the room. The mascot provided the girls with some entertainment.”

She also said that the girls were treated to a self-defence lesson from Sensei Lizette Rourke of the JKS Bloemfontein karate dojo. “The girls thoroughly enjoyed this, and are eager to do more karate kicks.”

Steyn explained that once the Cheetah players had left, the AfriForum Fichardt Park team stepped up and completed the painting of the bedroom. “Overall it was a successful morning. The girls love their newly painted room, and were grateful for all the thrills of the day.”

The Afriforum Fichardpark team that assisted with painting the room from the left are: Janus Venter, Branden de Kock and Evardi Boshoff.
