Bloemfontein is in for a rainy weekend with shower expected throughout the next two days.

According to a South African Weather Service forecaster, Kgoloselo Mahlangu, tomorrow’s weather in Bloemfontein will start off sunny, but will become partly cloudy around 10:00 with thundershowers expected around the same time. Later in the evening – from 20:00 to midnight – thunderstorms will continue.

Mahlangu says on Sunday showers will fall until 04:00, with cloudy weather expected throughout the day. More showers and thundershowers are expected from 12:00 until 18:00.

Meanwhile the Mangaung Metro Municipality has issued a warning to residents against possible floods and thunderstorms. This was after the South African Weather Services had issued an impact-based warning – level 2 – for severe thunderstorms expected on Thursday and Friday.

The metro’s spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, says that localised flash floods can be expected in low-lying areas, roads, and informal settlements.
