Seven more protestors were arrested this morning while twelve others are expected to appear before Harrismith Magistrate’s Court in the Free State this morning.
This after they were arrested on charges of public violence. These suspects include a few minors, who will be under supervision of their parents.
The seven others who were arrested this morning pertaining to an incident when protestors at Tshiame A section placed stones in the road.
According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, thus far the situation is still tense on the N3 in and around Harrismith. “The police visibility is high in Harrismith, Intabazwe, Makgolokweng Village, Tshiame A and B, monitoring unpredictable situation of protests which have spread to other sections of Harrismith. The police were called to attend to protesters barricading roads and burning tyres in the township and N5. The tyres were removed as there were no protestors nearby.”
