REFILWE MEKOA
Moqhaka Municipality said residents living at low lying areas will begin to have water by Monday night.
According to municipal spokesperson, Khojane Madiba they believe 90 percent of the water supply will be restored by Tuesday. This after the municipality discovered that some water pipes were intentionally burned during the weekend in Kroonstad by unknown individuals.
Madiba said they have opened a case with the police to investigate the matter and added that they have brought in a new pipe from Welkom. “The pipe was too long and had to be cut into half. We unfortunately experienced water leakages in both of the two sleeves and as a result the water pumps were stopped. It was found that the rubbers used were not fitting properly and had to be brought from Welkom on Monday. The mayor would like to thank everyone that was involved in the matter,” said Madiba.
He said water is already pumping from the water purification plant through the pipe to both Kroon Heuwel Dam and North East Dam.
