Modutoane impressed by the local talent

LEE KHOTLELE

Bloemfontein – Morethebe Modutoane, sport director at the Phahameng-based Kagisho Comprehensive Secondary School, was impressed with the talent witnessed at the Inter-town School Sport Tournament recently held at the school.

The annual tournament which aims to promote and improve sport in the rural areas entailed Netball and Soccer.

Kagisho was joined by other three schools – Kgololosego High School (Dealsville), Reamohetse High School (Botshabelo) and Ipetleng High (Petrusburg).

The hosts dominated the event, with the netball team beating Kgololosego 9-4, while the soccer side beat Reamohetse 1-0 in the finals.

The winners of the soccer, Kagisho, received a floating trophy and 25 gold medals while the runner-ups walked away with 25 silver medals.

“After the committee discussed the idea of starting this tournament, we invited different schools and were happy that they all came on board,” Modutoane told Courant Sport.

“The main aim of this tournament is to develop sport in the township and bring Wednesday sport back, so I was happy to see it happening,” he added.

Modutoane, who is also the coach of the University of the Free State Women’s Football Team, admitted that it was a successful tournament.

“The support from the public and the school was just phenomenal. It helped the kids realise the importance of sport,” he said.

“This kind of tournaments also attracts scouts to come and spot talent, which is what we want.”

“We have talented players in the team and would like them to go further one day, so it is indeed an amazing opportunity for these pupils to grow and improve their game,” Modutoane concluded.

The Inter-town School Sport Tournament will take place again in September, 2014.
