Modern conduct

Brenda Myburgh

I have become more and more aware of people abiding in Christ on the one hand while still holding on to the world with the other. 1 John 2 v 6 “Whoever says he abides in Him ought to walk and conduct himself in the same way in which He walked and conducted Himself.”(Amplified)
When we look at it from John’s perspective we are to copy the walk and conduct of Jesus. How then do we justify holding onto the world at the same time? It is very clear that we should strive to become more like Jesus. The world is in great need of hope and people who can show them the light. Unfortunately we have missed many opportunities to show this light to people because our example to them is one of many contradictions.
Jesus walked in love with all people and treated them with respect. Sometimes I stand amazed at how rude people can speak to others in a shop or when things don’t go exactly as they planned. They will humiliate someone with their conduct and blame it on the modern day way of living. Unfortunately no matter how we try to justify ourselves, if we are not walking in the conduct of Jesus we are not abiding in Him as we ought to.
