The Mangaung Metro Municipality (MMM) has started to roll up its sleeves, and roadworks are in progress all across the City of Roses as the upgrade of the road network in the city is now gaining momentum.
This is according to municipal spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, who said that the MMM is committed to improving the quality of the roads in the city whilst ensuring the safety of dedicated sidewalks for pedestrians.
MMM also engaged with labourers and residents to get their views on the recent developments. Joseph Moutlanyana, who is a labourer on the project, shared his happiness to be part of the road infrastructure programme in the Bloemfontein area. According to him, the project has created job opportunities for him and other members of the community.
“This has helped me acquire new skills and we are making progress,” he said.
Another project worker, Thozama Mbali, joined the project in 2020 and said this opportunity has meant relief to her as she is able to earn a living to provide for her family.
The MMM also spoke to community member, Mmametse Sekwe, who said it is very rare that they see progress with municipal projects in townships.
Khedama said that in addition the IPTN road network, infrastructure upgrading is taking place in the city’s Central Business District as part of the City’s Roads Maintenance programme.
