Bloemfontein. – South Africa’s men and women’s teams did not have a good day at the office at the Mangaung Open Beach Volleyball World Series currently underway in Bloemfontein yesterday.

From early morning the host nation’s teams were on the losing side and in the afternoon it did not go any better. The number one men and women’s sides were eliminated by straight sets, and the country’s hope was eventually pinned on Anneta Frederikson and Gadija Jappie, who had won their earlier match against compatriots Luciana Sittig and Simone Pierangeli.

It was however the Germans, Sandra Ittlinger and Yanina Weiland, who had the upper hand and won the South Africans by two sets to nil in the last game of the day. Ittlinger said they had to work hard to win the second set, but they’re delighted to have won the match.
