OFM News reports, Poonyane was shot and killed on duty when he and a female colleague intercepted a suspicious vehicle in Orkney last week Saturday.
It is alleged that the suspects opened fire on the police members after their vehicle was approached. Poonyane was declared dead on the scene while his colleague was wounded and hospitalised.
In an exclusive interview with OFM News, Commissioner Baile Motswenyane, said four suspects aged between 25 and 38 were arrested two days after the incident and are facing charges which include murder and attempted murder. They appeared in the Orkney Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 12 February and the case was postponed to 21 February. They remain in custody.
Meanwhile, the fifth suspect is still at large and police have confirmed that three suspects are relatives and originally from Lesotho.
