The bubbly and enthusiastic seven-year-old, Masego Kgoerere from Lourier Park in Bloemfontein, has recently been crowned Mini Miss RSA and is hoping to represent the country at Royal International Miss Pageant, which will be held in Orlando Florida in the USA next year.
Masego, who is a Grade 2 learner at Brandwag Primary School, has always had a love for dressing up. “Masego is a vibrant girl, she is loves to play dress-up, walking on stage and taking photos. We made the decision to put her into pageantry because she is always singing and dancing. When we buy clothes and shoes she will always put on a fashion show for us,” said her mother, Puseletso Kgoerere.
Kgoerere said they joined the Mini Miss RSA Pageant because it incorporated community service and emphasises the “aspect of ‘children being children’, not dolling up children as adults, and it boosts their confidence. They get to answer questions on stage and this also teaches them about being comfortable in front of a crowd and marketing themselves.”
The pageant took place from 4 to 7 October 2017, and Masego was crowned at a lavish gala event. She took home the Mini Miss RSA 2017 title as well as the Public Choice Award, Miss Congeniality and the Photogenic Award.
Masego’s next step is to attend the Royal International Miss, which will be held in Orlando, Florida, in the USA from 8 until 14 July 2018. Kgoerere said this pageant is similar to the Mini Miss RSA Pageant as it also tries to preserve the innocence of the children for as long as possible. “They groom and motivate the girls into being the best they could possibly be, while keeping them as natural as can be so that they don’t imitate another person. They must be who they are,” added Kgoerere.
Kgoerere is currently on a campaign to raise funds so that she can attend the Royal International Miss Pageant. For more information, contact Puseletso Kgoerere on 073-947-0783.
