Metsimaholo Municipality has stopped its Integrated Development Plan (IDP) public meetings due to interruptions from some community members.
Municipal spokesperson Gino Alberts said that the meetings were supposed to take place for the next three weeks. He explained that since the meetings have emerged last week, some residents have been getting into meetings and intentionally causing interruptions.
Alberts stated that it led to the municipality not being able to interact with the community. He said the municipality apologises to Oranjeville, Deneysville and Sasolburg residents for the inconvenience and promises that they will be coming up with new rescheduled dates
“These meetings are very important because it is where our communities are interacting with regard to the budget and issues that are related to the IDP. It is where residents voice their satisfaction and matters that are happening within the municipality. Residents are given an opportunity to hold the municipality accountable with every cent that they are using,” he explained.
Alberts said they don’t know the cause of the interruptions and they are currently busy implementing plans on how best to control the problem.
