Metro introduces team to implement financial recovery plan

Executive Mayor of Mangaung Metro, Olly Mlamleli, has, together with the provincial counterparts MECs for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Thembeni Nxangisa, and Treasury, Gadija Brown, introduced an administrative team consisting of five individuals to the Mangaung Metro senior management to assist with the implementation of the city’s financial recovery plan. The team consists of representatives from different departments and will be led by Adv. Mzwakhe Mofokeng, as the Free State EXCO representative.

According to a statement by the municipality, this intervention comes after a letter had been written to the premier of the Free State by the Deputy Minister of Finance in 2019. The letter raised concerns about the fiscal capacity of the municipality.

According to Mlamleli, the sole responsibility of the team will be to assist in implementing the financial recovery plan and fast-tracking service delivery; as per the instruction from the executive council.  “I would like to see this team and the Mangaung administration team working together to ensure that the financial recovery plan is implemented and that the residents of Mangaung are given the services they deserve” she said.

The team will be expected to report to both the Mangaung Metro Council and the Provincial Executive Council. The team will later be reinforced by representatives from National COGTA and National Treasury and they are: Adv. Mzwakhe Mofokeng (Office of the Premier), Masechaba Sesing (Provincial Accountant General & CA), Dineo Mokheseng (Provincial COGTA),  Ernest Mohlahlo (Acting Head Public Works & Infrastructure), •Thomas Lindelo Mkaza (Vast experience in local government).
