A message alleging that two motorists have died after being offered a free cool drink by people pretending to be marketers from a certain company in Botshabelo in the Free State, has been doing the rounds on social media and causing panic.
Bloemfontein Courant spoke to the police in the area, and according to Free State police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, this message is not true.
Mbambo said, however, that only one incident had been reported in Botshabelo, and the rumour of the deceased being given an energy drink that was poisoned, is still being investigated.
She says that a post mortem will provide clarity on the matter and that an inquest has being opened. Should it be confirmed during the investigation that indeed someone spiked the energy drink, the case will be changed to murder.
The message also alleges that a local radio station reported on the incident where marketers were targeting motorists at robots and handing them cool drinks that were poisoned. – Sazly Hartzenberg
