After realising that nursing is not just a profession but a commitment and a duty of love and care towards your fellowmen, Sr Angela Waring never looked back.
Waring, who will now take the reigns as manager of Mediclinic’s new Day Clinic after years of experience in the medical field, has an immaculate track record.
Waring, who always wanted to pursue a career in the medical field, followed her passion and applied to study Physiotherapy at the University of the Free State. However, when she was not selected, she decided to enrol for BSc (Biological Sciences) instead.
It was during that year that she realised her love for nursing, which led her to enrolling for B.Soc.Sc (Nursing) the next year. According to her, that was the point where she started to design her career path to align with her purpose of a meaningful life.
Waring’s first permanent employment was with the South African National Defence Force at 3 Military Hospital in Bloemfontein. “I served in the force for seven years as a registered nurse in theatre, and excelled to the rank of a captain. The military’s discipline and precision were the two skills that contributed greatly to shaping my character,” said Waring.
The next important milestone in her career, which laid the cornerstone for all her nursing knowledge, was the seven years that she worked for Mediclinic Bloemfontein, where she gained theatre experience in a vast number of disciplines, including mentoring and leadership.
Waring did not stop at that and completed her MBA in 2012 at the University of the Free State. This opened doors for her and contributed to her involvement with opening and managing day hospitals in three different provinces. “The first being Cure Day Hospital Bloemfontein, and thereafter she worked in the Cure Group as their Group Operational Manager, managing eight day hospitals in Gauteng, the Free State and the Western Cape.
“Before starting at Mediclinic Bloemfontein’s Day Clinic in November 2020, I was also involved at the Stirling Day Hospital as well as Stirling Sub-Acute,” said Waring.
Waring will be managing the new exciting Mediclinic Day Clinic, which is a modern 30 bed, 3 theatres and 2 procedure rooms facility. The new facility will offer affordable day surgery, and the new cubicle design offers patients ample time to recover in privacy, before they are safely discharged.
The day clinic, which is set to open in March 2021, will be located on the same premises as Mediclinic Bloemfontein, and patients can expect to receive the same quality care and expertise they have grown accustomed to at Mediclinic.
