Matric exams running smoothly in Free State

The first day of the national matric exams which kicked off for most matrics yesterday went smoothly and problem free in the Free State and North West.

Gr.12 learners of the two provinces joined thousands of others across the country writing the first English paper in the exams which continues until November 26.

Consumer Studies and Hospitality Studies papers were also completed yesterday.

Spokesperson for the Department of Education in the Free State, Howard Ndaba, says more than 35 000 learners wrote the English paper. He adds the exams was incident free despite protests in Parys by the ANC Youth League against the name of HF Verwoerd Primary which recently changed to Parys Primary. – Christal-Lize Muller
