The Maseru border post at Ladybrand is still congested with motor vehicles after it was closed for traffic at noon yesterday. The police say the border post is blocked with heavy traffic piling up on the South African side. Long queues of trucks and taxis are blocking the road.
An informed police officer says there is no violence or any movement at the border post. Coordinator of the Border Control Operational Coordinating Committee (BCOCC), Lieb Venter says high level negotiations are underway at the South African High Commission in Lesotho to re-open the border post, reasons for the blockade are still unknown to this point but disgruntled taxi drivers have been implicated.
People are able to cross on foot but no vehicles are allowed through. Motorists are advised to use the Ficksburg and Wepner border or Pecker Brigde post as an alternative.
