SABRINA DEAN – Residents of Mangaung and the country at large are being urged to provide a motivation for Mangaung Executive Mayor Thabo Manyoni to be crowned the World Mayor of 2014.
Spokesperson Qondile Khedama says Manyoni is one of only two mayors from the African continent shortlisted for the World Mayor Prize, wghich is awarded every two years by the London Based City Mayor’s Foundation. He says the metro is very humbled by the nomination because it recognizes Mayors with the vision, passion and skills to make world class cities.
"The nomination means a lot to us because it gives recognition tot he work that is being done in Mangaung," he says.
"We encourage people to go to the webiste, motivate and support the good cause of having their mayor up there making a good impact in the world," he says.
The Metro has also congratulated Daniel Termont, Mayor of Mangaung’s European twin, the City of Ghent in Belgium, for making the 2014 shortlist. DA leader Helen Zille received the World Mayor Prize in 2008 when she was still mayor of Cape Town.
