Seventeen people have been injured on Wednesday night in an accident at Brandfort.
According to Netcare 911, paramedics responded to a call after a collision at the Brandfort turn-off. Spokesperson, Chris Botha, says reports from the scene indicate that a taxi collided into the side of a truck.
“Paramedics arrived at the scene and after triaging the injured, they found the driver still trapped in the twisted frame of the taxi. Five people sustained serious injuries while six escaped with minor injuries. Exact detail to the cause of the crash and preceding events will form part of the South African Police Service (SAPS) investigation.”
Botha further explained that firefighters worked tirelessly using the Jaws of Life to extricate the seriously injured driver while paramedics worked hand in hand to stabilise them.
He indicated that the critically injured man was airlifted to a hospital in Bloemfontein while the other patients were transported by ambulance to various hospitals for the care that they required. Botha later added that a further six people with minor injuries were transported to hospitals bringing the total number of those injured up to 17 people.
