Mantsopa municipality, healthcare workers launch Influenza-Covid-19 campaign

The Mantsopa municipality in the Free State has joined hands with Free State Department of Health in launching the Influenza/Covid-19 awareness campaign.

According to the statement issued by the Mantsopa Local Municipality, the campaign is part of the initiative after realising that the local hospital and private health facilities have recently had an influx of patients with flu-like symptoms.

The Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) coordinator at Senorita Nhlabathi District Hospital in Ladybrand, Malekwatsa Pitso, has taken time to interact with community members who visited the facility earlier this week to get their Covid-19 jabs. She cautioned that most people have recently been admitted to the health care facility as a result of the Influenza, which has same symptoms as Covid-19 pandemic. Pitso said people with influenza might show signs of severe headache, vomit, fever and diarrhea. She requested patients who might have those symptoms seek medical attention at the nearest health facility, rather than getting themselves medication at pharmacies.

“If you go to the clinic, it will help us a great deal with the research we are conducting to find out what the cause of the influenza is. We will appreciate your cooperation.” She further stated that this flu has also affected other neighbouring countries.

It is also reported that the vaccination programme has not been affected by the interaction with patients, as they were listening while waiting on a queue.
