The Mangaung Metro Trio Task Team, together with members at Navalsig Police Station have gone on a manhunt for an unknown number of suspects who robbed an elderly couple at their home in The Bend Avenue, Roodewal outside Bloemfontein on Saturday evening.

Spokesperson of the Free State SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane, explained in a statement that a 73-year-old man was ambushed outside his home by an unknown male wearing a blue boiler suit, a mask and white gloves. His 58-year-old wife heard the commotion outside and realised that her husband was in trouble. She was subsequently also threatened with a knife and assaulted by the suspect.

“The suspect was later joined by another unknown male who helped to ransack the house. The suspects forced the wife to transfer money from her bank account and they also stole an undisclosed amount of money and cards from the house before they fled the scene. The victims raised alarm and members of the area’s neighbourhood watch arrived to help,” said Covane.

According to the victims, one of the suspects suffered an injury on the chest, which was sustained when the wife fought back. Both victims were rushed to the hospital by an ambulance.

A case of house robbery was opened at the Navalsig Police Station. Any member of the public who might have information regarding the case, is requested to contact Sergeant Kendrick Brendon Barnes at 082 466 7255.
