A manhunt has been launched after a 16-year-old girl had allegedly been gang raped by two suspects in an open field at Seemeeu Park in Welkom on 15 September 2020.

According to the office of the provincial commissioner in the Free State, the victim was at a local premises where chicken is sold, waiting for sister and her fiancée, when she was accosted by three suspects who covered her eyes and forced her into a gold/silver Toyota.

According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, the suspects drove to an open field where they proceeded to gang rape the victim. “They continued to threaten her that they would burn her alive should she continue to fight back but ultimately she managed to escape. Whilst running away from these rapists, she saw a patrolling police van and reported what had happened, but the suspects could not be found at the time,” said Makhele.

The suspects are believed to be between the ages of 30 and 40 years of age and one suspect had short dreadlocks whilst the other had long dreadlocks. The vehicle (Toyota Tazz) is alleged to be used as a taxi.
