The municipal council of the Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro Municipality (MMM) is set to table an investigative report which looked into the conduct of the suspended Municipal Manager, Tanksio Mea.
OFM News reports, a source close to the upper echelon in the metro tells OFM News that the metro will on Wednesday 28 July, in a closed committee sitting, table this report which looked into Mea’s alleged maladministration and misconduct. The council is also set to be informed about the alleged resignation of Mea, following his suspension by council in May 2021.
Mea was the subject of an independent investigation by two senior counsels – advocate Tebogo Manye and advocate Johann Nel – who scrutinised Mea’s misconduct. The metro’s acting mayor, Molefi Morake, and Mea both declined to comment on the news that Mea resigned and said the news were rumours.
Adv. Manye and Adv. Nel have full access to all documentation and records pertaining to the matter related to the allegations. In May 2021, OFM News reported that 62 council members voted in favour of the motion to suspend Mea – who has been accused of misconduct and maladministration.
The other 29 council members voted against his suspension, while the Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) says it failed to vote due to a loss of connectivity. The council elected the metro’s Head of the Economic and Development Department, Teboho Maine, as the new acting municipal manager.
The metro is yet to elect a new mayor since 2020 September, when former Mayor Olly Mlamleli was ousted through a vote of no confidence, in which ANC members betrayed the party’s policy and position to not vote with opposition parties.
