Mangaung scraps water interruptions

Mangaung Metro residents in the Free State can breathe a sigh of relief as the municipality cancels 36-hour water interruptions meant to begin on Tuesday.

Mangaung’s spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, is yet to provide reasons behind the cancellation.

The municipality had announced in a release that the water-shedding was a part of Bloem Water’s annual maintenance which began in May and was expected to come to an end in August 2019.

The notice came a few days after the northern parts of Bloemfontein were also without water due to low water levels in the reservoirs.

In July, Bloem Water issued a fresh 30-day notice of water interruptions to the municipality a day after the two parties were in the Free State High Court over Mangaung’s failure to settle its debt to the water board. The municipality is allegedly under pressure to make payments to Bloem Water and another service provider for water purification chemicals.
