Mangaung Rose Festival to sizzle in magic

GALOOME SHOPANE The city of roses will live up to its name this weekend during the annual Rose Festival.

The festival, which has been a great tourist attraction, is celebrating its 38th year and will be hosted at the Loch Logan Waterfront Mall.

Meryl Henning, marketing manager at the mall says they this year’s theme is rose magic and they have used colours depicting the Mangaung Metro logo to highlight and celebrate that this is the city of roses. She explains how the city became accustomed to the name the City of Roses.

“Many years the members of the (British) Royal family visited Bloemfontein and roses were planted in their honour. And because the roses grew very well in the region, the city fathers at that time started planting more and more roses, and that is how we became the City of Roses,” says Henning.

The metro’s Mayor, Thabo Manyoni, is set to officially open the festival tomorrow.
