A supplier of diesel to the Mangaung Metro Municipality allegedly stopped supplying the metro. This, after the metro has failed to stick to their payment arrangements, a source who prefers to remain anonymous told OFM News.

The spokesperson of the municipality, Qondile Khedama, says the matter has been attended to and the diesel will be delivered this afternoon or early tomorrow.

The company supplying diesel allegedly stopped due to the metro’s debt and backlogs. The financially embattled municipality had service delivery issues in the past which led to the municipality being placed under administration late last year by the Minister of Finance, David Masondo. Khedama further says they will deal with the current backlogs and speed up service delivery.

He says the municipality currently has 24 waste collection trucks and they will be operating again by today or tomorrow when the diesel arrives.

This source also alleged that the municipality currently only has three waste collection trucks in operation. Khedama says the MEC of Cooperative Government and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Thembeni Nxangisa, and the HOD of Cogta, Victor Duma, are currently providing guidance to the municipality. They are confident that this will produce positive results and positively impact service delivery.

Meanwhile, mayor Olly Mlamleli and Nxangisa will soon meet with the administrators assigned by the government to deal with their financial backlogs and service delivery issues.
