The newly elected mayor of the Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro Municipality is set to soon announce his mayoral committee members (MMC).

OFM News reports, this after their employment expired on Monday following the election of  Mxolisi Siyonzana as the new mayor.

The metro had been operating with the MMC of the previous mayor, Olly Mlamleli, despite her removal as the mayor in August 2020.

At a media briefing following his election, Siyonzana also announced that the inauguration date will be announced at a later stage.

Siyonzana edged DA councillor, Hardie Vivier, with 57 votes to 25, whilst five votes were spoilt. The Metro also elected Mapaseka Mothibi-Nkoane as the new Speaker, defeating DA’s David Masoeu by garnering 54 votes to 24 of Masoeu.

Siyonzana on Monday hit back at his critics and naysayers by addressing critics who think that he has been in the upper echelon of the metro for at least a decade but has still failed to address financial mismanagement and other critical issues at the metro.

Responding to the allegations, the newly elected mayor said he has on previous occasions written letters to the previous executive council and the ANC to try and address issues of non-compliance, especially about legislative policies.
