The Mangaung Metro Municipality is yet to discuss steps to take after nine of its employees spent the past weekend in jail after being accused of murder.
The group that was arrested on Friday evening following a commotion that occurred while working overtime, briefly appeared before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court this morning. Their case was set aside on grounds that there is no sufficient evidence linking them to the murder case that was opened against them.
It was alleged that the group beat one of the community members in Mangaung to death after he tried to rob them of their personal belongings.
The metro’s City Manager, Advocate Tankiso Mea, told OFM News that their employees were wrongly arrested and that they are pleased that they have now been set free and that the matter has been set aside. He says they are going to engage with their lawyers and their employees to chart a way forward and decide whether they will be taking legal action or not.
