Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality has confirmed that some medical certificates that they received from suspended city planner Kaba Kabagambe are from Uganda.

This after Cope councillor Barnard Mononyane told Bloemfontein Courant earlier this month that Kabagambe was allegedly not in South Africa because he has been sending medical certificates from Uganda. Municipal speaker Mxolisi Siyonzana stressed that he didn’t know Kabagambe’s whereabouts.

Kabagambe has still not been taken to an independent doctor of the municipality’s choice, this after the municipal council decided that Kabagambe needed to be assessed by their own doctor. Siyonzana said that city manager Sibongile Mazibuko has been assigned by council to find an independent doctor to evaluate Kabagambe and the validity of the sick notes he has provided to the municipality. He further added that he didn’t know when it will happen.

“Yes, there were medical certificates from Uganda. What I know is that he must be taken to a doctor in Mangaung, not in Uganda or any other area. That is our council resolution,” he said.

Siyonzana however clarified that even though he might have new information regarding the matter, he cannot disclose anything before it gets tabled in council as it is still remains confidential.

Media reports has surfaced earlier this year that Kabagambe is allegedly investigated for fraud and corruption by the Hawks specialist unit. Siyonzana is tight-lipped about the duration Kabagambe stopped working, however clarified that he was not receiving his salary.
