Man arrested for alleged rape in Driehoek, North West

A 41-year-old man was arrested for the alleged rape of a 47-year-old woman in Driehoek at Itsoseng near Lichtenburg on Sunday, North West police said.

“It is alleged that during the night of Friday 1 November 2019, the suspect was in the company of a 47-year-old woman and her boyfriend from a local shebeen. Allegedly, the suspect intervened after a fight ensued between the woman and her boyfriend.

“It is not clear at the moment what happened after the fight, except that the suspect forcefully took the victim to her residential place where he allegedly raped her,” spokesperson Captain Sam Tselanyane said.

Tselanyane said that following the alleged rape incident, police were called to a crime scene at 6.30am on Saturday, where the body of a 49-year-old man was found lying in a pool of blood “near the front door of a certain house” in Driehoek.

“The victim’s body was found with stab wounds on the neck and ribs. Police are currently questioning the suspect for possible linkage with the alleged murder. [The] Investigation into the matter continues,” Tselanyane said.

The arrested man was expected to appear in the Itsoseng Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
