Mamafubedu residents had enough

A week without water forced residents of Mamafubedu near Petrus Steyn in the Free State to barricade roads in the Mandela Park section, Old Location, and Riverside, with burning blocks, tyres and tree branches.

Residents accuse the Nketoana Local Municipality of failing to repair a broken mainline water plant, which transports water from Reitz to the dams that supply water to residents in Petrus Steyn.

Another reason that sparked rage is the fact that trucks that are supposed to deliver water to the affected areas do not pitch when they need to.

OFM News spoke to a member of the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco), Mangaliso Hlongwane, yesterday who stated that no resident could afford to spend long periods of time without water.

He said that residents cannot be badly affected by the political games played by the officials who are responsible to serve residents. Hlongwane further explained that they have been promised to get water yesterday afternoon but nothing has been fixed.

Apparently, the old infrastructure at a plant is one of the reasons why the pumping station has broken down.
