Making Christmas special for the needy

Santa’s Shoebox is an initiative that started off in Cape Town with only 160 shoeboxes. Since then it has grown in leaps and bounds. The shoeboxes are distributed to more than 1000 recipient facilities each year.

“This year we need to pledge 1405 Santa’s shoeboxes to needy children in Bloemfontein,” says Ilse Moolman. “The wonderful people of Bloemfontein have already pledged 1140 boxes and we are still in need of 265 boxes. We have identified 1405 children in Bloemfontein who unfortunately do not share in the joy of Christmas as the rest of the world. People who are interested in decorating and packing a box should go into the Santa Shoebox web page on  and pledge a box.

The children’s names are listed on the website. They can choose a child on the list and print the label with the child’s name, age and sex. This must be glued to the decorated box. The drop-off date is 18 and 19 October at StoreAge in Estoire. Contact Ilse Moolman on 082-393-7472 for more information.
