It takes a village to raise a child at Talitha Cumi Safe Haven for children in Bloemfontein. The local safe haven for abandoned and neglected children in Batho is gearing up for the fourth installment of their annual golf day to be hosted in August.
One of the volunteers, Loraine Gregorini, invited the publication for a short visit to the home to meet some of the beautiful babies and children in their care. “It is about making a difference in our world. We are created to love and to share love.
“It is also to bring awareness in our community about the Talitha Cumi House of Safety while making a difference in a child’s life. We can make the world a better place,” she said.
Gregorini further mentioned that she decided to take up the responsibility of being a helping hand when she had a vision of an abandoned little boy in a desert a few years ago, a decision she does not regret as seeing the positive change in the lives of the children they care for.
“The need is continuous, there is always something we need. “It is an ongoing [societal issue] problem where people will have babies and think they can get grants but it is never sufficient to take care of the kids.
So we need people’s hearts to connect because we need physical things like food and vitamins to care for the kids. We need the community to join hands with us to be able to look after the kids in the best way we possibly could,” she expressed.
She added that donations and sponsorships for this golf day stretch far beyond financial aid. It can be in the form of time, clothing and items that may be needed for the home as well as towards the golf day.
There will always be a friendly face at the door to welcome you at the baby house that was founded by Mariette Boshoff in 2008. “Join us with outreaches or come visit and just spend time with the baby.
Just to hold a baby. Sometimes it can bring more healing and love to that person that’s holding the baby than what that person is a blessing to the baby,” said Gregorini.
The golf day will take place on 23 August at the Bloemfontein Golf Club. The 4-ball alliance with scramble drive will cost R650 per person.
There will be an auction and a R100 000 cash prize on hole 8/16 for a Hole-in-one. No professional players are allowed to compete.
