Respected Education Analyst and renowned writer Graeme Block will be the keynote speaker when Free State Education MEC, Tate Makgoe, recognises and rewards best educators during the National Teaching Awards on Friday, 15 November at Phillip Sanders in Bloemfontein.
The purpose of the National Teaching Awards (NTA) is to recognise and encourage excellence in education. Other objectives include: honouring dedicated and effective teachers and encouraging best teaching practices.
The NTA is now in its thirteenth year, with the aim of giving recognition to the best teachers and positively profile teaching as a career.
Teachers will be awarded in the following categories:
• Excellence in Grade R Teaching
• Excellence in Primary School Teaching
• Excellence in Secondary School Teaching
• Excellence in Primary School Leadership
• Excellence in Special Needs
• Excellence in ICT – Enhanced Teaching
• The Lifetime Achievement Award
In this year two new categories were added which are :
• Excellence in teaching Mathematics
• Excellence in teaching Science
The winners in each category will receive prizes to the value of R50 000.00 which include laptops, LED TVs, MTN hampers as well as cash.
The ten provincial finalists will compete at national level from 20 to 26 January 2014. The winner will be announced at a National Gala event which will take place during February 2014.
