The DA in Gauteng has called on MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi to name the six schools implicated in cheating in the 2014 national Senior Certificate exams.
Gauteng is one of the seven provinces implicated in the group cheating. DA’s Gauteng Shadow MEC for Education Khume Ramulifho says the schools involved in the cheating need to be named because parents are beginning to enrol their children for the new year.
"We are saying let us make this information public, especially now that parents are looking to enrol their children for 2015. Seven provinces are actually implicated; only two provinces have no mention in this group cheating. Those who are found guilty during the investigation must be brought to book, otherwise we will all have doubt about the credibility of the exams," he explains.
He adds the DA believes that each province needs to ensure that an investigation takes place and serious action should be taken against those found guilty.
The alleged group cheating was discovered in one centre in Northern Cape, one in North West and six in Gauteng. The Free State has not been implicated in the group cheating during the 2014 matric exams.
In response to the cheating, Umalusi announced it would block learners matric results.
