The majority of votes that were cast in the Free State on 8 May have been captured at the Free State IEC Results Operations Centre (ROC) in Bloemfontein. According to Provincial Electoral Officer, Jabulani Tshabalala, a little over 200 stations still have to be captured from throughout the Free State.
“Municipalities with the most results still awaiting capture include Mangaung at 27.12%. Maluti A Phofung has the highest number of outstanding results at 40.35%, followed by Moqhaka at 19.14%, Matjhabeng at 11.24%, Metsimaholo at 6.66% and Ngwathe at 2.77,” said Tshabalala.
The ROC captures results from across the province before the information is added to the statistics from the rest of the country. Despite Mangaung accounting for the highest number of registered voters the municipality did not produce the largest turnout of voters.
“Based on the results captured to date, voter turnout was sitting at 61.59% provincially with the highest turnout reported in Dihlabeng at 65.39% and the lowest in Nala at 57.15%,” explained Tshabalala.
According to the Electoral Officer the results were from midday, today. By then the Electoral Commission had finalized the results from 1 295 out of the 1 529 voting stations which totalled 623 212 votes. – Nomaqhawe Mtebele
