The Botshabelo Library recently held a farewell ceremony for one of its longest serving library assistants, Mmarona Morwana.

Morwana received messages of support from many library users. Young and old came in their numbers to bid her farewell.
Thabo Mosole from the Botshabelo Writers’ Club said he had worked with Morwana for a long period of time.

“Her name says it all – she was ‘our mother’. She has been the force behind the Botshabelo Writers’ Club and she was a great leader. She used to help us with venue bookings here at the Botshabelo Library where we held our meetings with local authors. We will miss her presence here at the library because of the passion she had for her work.”

Nondlela Chaka said that Morwana has been one of the longest serving assistants at the library. “She started working here before us and would welcome people with a smile and made a point of you finding the book you’re looking for.”

Morwana told Bloemfontein Courant that she started working at the Botshabelo Library in 1996, “I am grateful to have served the community of Botshabelo all these years. I would like to encourage the library users to continue visiting the library even if I am no longer working here, because books never go out of fashion. Thank you to everyone for this great day. I will cherish it all of my days.” – Lebakeng Nkabi
