Local designers go retail with pop up shop

Candy Smith, FS Fashion Council Chairwoman and CEO of FSFW.

Residents wondering where to get all the fabulous garments showcased at the Free State Fashion Week, can now easily walk into Mimosa Mall and have their pick of designer garments all in one space.

FSFW has partnered with Mimosa Mall to open its first pop up store in the Mall. The partnership sees FSFW enter the retail space to be more than just a prestigious fashion and lifestyle showcase platform for emerging designers from and around the province. It is also a creation of sustainable income channels and business growth for designers.

“When we started in 2016, it was just about showcasing and giving emerging designers the platform. Parallel to the showcase, we were working on establishing the Free State Fashion Hub, our Fashion Design School, in order to formalise and develop skills for aspiring and emerging fashion designers. The school was accredited a year later. Entering the retail space is another milestone for us and we are so excited for this partnership,” said Candy Smith, Chairwoman of Free State Fashion Council and CEO of FSFW.

Smith added that the FS Fashion Council has always aimed at covering the full value chain from an idea, to training and development, to manufacturing, to fashion shows and trade missions, to retail. “We are creating opportunities for designers to have the support they need to showcase their work nationally and take their brands international,” she said.

The Free State Fashion Week Pop Up store opens from Monday to Sunday.
