Most people dream of achieving certain great things that will make their lives fulfilled, but the truth of the matter is, only few get to realise their dreams – whether on a small or large scale.
One of the lucky few is Botshabelo-born hip hop dancer and female rapper, Goitsimang Matlabe, better known as Lili Leona to her fans from V-section.
Lili Leona always had one thing on her mind: To be a female rapper. When she was doing Grade 11 at Lefikeng High School in 2015, the calling from the hip hop genre was too strong to resist. She started as a poet and sometimes composed her own rap verses in both Sesotho and English as part of her personal growth.
Her breakthrough into the rap scene came when she got an opportunity to release her first hit, titled “Badimo” (ancestors), featuring local artists such as Farmboy, Kay Pro, Nex Da Kokotane, Curls and Troy M.
Badimo, which is currently receiving airplay on the Mosupatsela FM and Motheo FM charts, has opened a lot of doors for her. She is currently working on the release of yet another single, titled “No way”, which will be available on 14 April.
The two songs are additions towards her upcoming EP project, which is still in the compilation phase. She says this project is mostly inspired by her producer, Nex Da Kokotane (NDK). Badimo is available for downloads on Sound Clouds and the Data File Host website.
“After I obtained my matric, I was unable to study at a tertiary institution due to financial constraints. However, I didn’t waste my time blaming my parents for not sending me to study further. Instead I decided to follow my passion, which is music and dancing.”
Lili Leona regards herself as a hard working person and is always driven to achieve more through her passion and love for her music.
She is currently signed to Blurqstone Entertainment in Botshabelo. For bookings, contact Lili Leona on 066-381-1725, on Facebook: Lili Leone, or on email: lilileona98@gmail.com.
