Lesotho man nabbed with R300 000 worth of dagga

A 21 year old Lesotho national was caught on the R30 road in Allanridge with over 19 bags of dagga, estimated to be worth over R300 000.

A twenty-one-year-old Lesotho National got the shock of his life this morning when he was caught in Allanridge with over R300 000 worth of dagga.

According to Free State Provincial Traffic spokesperson, Kabelo Moloabi, 13 bags of dagga weighing over 360 kilograms were seized from a white Honda Jazz which the suspect was driving.

The bust happened at around 04h50 at a joint operation roadblock in the Free State town on the R30 route. When questioned, the unnamed man claimed that he was paid R9 000 to deliver this cargo from Lesotho to Klerksdorp.

Moloabi also says that the young man knew that he was carrying illegal substances as the dagga bags were not covered and the smell of the dagga seized “was unbearable”.

Police spokeperson, Stephen Thakeng, says who the young man was working for will form part of the police investigation. The perpetrator remains in custody and will appear at the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
