After being picked from thousands of hopefuls from around the country, Bloemfontein’s Lenoma Legal, has been named the “Airbnb and Uber” of the legal industry at the Seedstars South Africa Finals held in Johannesburg on Thursday.
Seedstars is an international company that seeks out digital startups that defy the status quo and have the potential to be the global companies of the future. With the company having two satellite offices, one in Johannesburg and another in Cape Town, founder of Lenoma Legal, Leah Molatseli, entered the competition at the Johannesburg offices.
Lenoma Legal is a legal tech company from Bloem giving accessible and affordable legal services and documents for small business owners in SA. For more information visit www.lenoma.co.za.
Molatseli said it is a huge honour for Lenoma to have made it to the top eight and to be chosen as the wild card start-up. Despite not winning the competition, Molatseli said she was proud of the fact that she was the only legal tech-company and was also one of the few black and female owned companies in the top eight.”The experience was both exciting and nerve wrecking. It pushed me to think better and faster. The fact that I got to that level is also a reflection of the amazing team I have.”
She said being the only company from Bloemfontein to reach that stage in the competition also made her proud. “That is why I would mention and pay homage to the Rose City whenever the chance presents itself.”
All the companies that took part in the competition pitched for a chance to win a free trip to Switzerland and possible equity funding. A medical startup, EMGuidance, won the 2017 title of the most promising startup in South Africa. The company consolidates medical information from experts in other regions and puts it all in one place.
As part of their prize, EMGuidance will be participating at the Seedstars Summit, taking place in Switzerland in April 2018. During this time, they will also be afforded a week-long training programme with the opportunity to meet the other winners, as well as investors from around the world.
The final day of the summit will be dedicated to pitching in front of an audience of 1000 attendees, with the possibility of winning up to $500,000 as an equity investment. –Â Pulane Choane
