Jika Communications and Training will be presenting a Lego workshop for teachers and parents on 12 February at Brebner Primary School, with education specialist, Debbie de Jongh.
De Jongh, a trained high school teacher and remedial therapist, works extensively in the early childhood development (ECD) sector and is passionate about early learning support and intervention.
She develops educational resources for teachers, and presents teacher workshops on subjects relating to literacy, numeracy, classroom management and professional development.
“The Six Bricks Programme activities are short, simple exercises or games designed to wake up the brain and get the child moving, thinking and remembering,” says De Jongh.
The Six Bricks concept was designed to excite and motivate young children in the classroom. “Developmental experiences and relationships are vital in forming the young learner’s brain,” she says. “In order to grasp concepts, children must be given time to manipulate concrete tools, and opportunities to use their whole body to explore and aid their development of ideas, curiosity and imagination.”
Tickets for the event sell at R150 each, which includes tea or coffee and a snack. Parents and teachers are welcome to attend. Teachers can earn 10 SACE points for attendance. The event takes place at Brebner Primary School from 15:00 to 16:30. Registration starts at 14:30.
