Free State Sports, Art, Culture and Recreation (SACR) MEC Mathabo Leeto and Bloemwater CEO Dr. Limakatso Moorosi were at the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court this morning.

The duo appeared in court as corruption charges against them dating back to 2013 were reinstated. The charges were withdrawn in May 2017, but a close source has confirmed that they were recently reinstated after the Hawks managed to get the bank and company statements related to these charges.

The Hawks reported that the two were arrested last night in connection with the alleged irregular awarding of a tender worth R15 million.

However, speaking to those around her before court proceedings began, Leeto said this was not true. At the time of the alleged offenses Leeto, was still the executive mayor of Matjhabeng municipality in Welkom, while Moorosi was CFO at the Matjhabeng Municipality during the same time.

The matter has been remanded to 2 March 2017 for further investigation.
