The Department of Education in the Free State has stated that application forms for learners’ registration and admission for the 2020 academic year are now available at respective schools and should be returned on or before 31 July 2019.

The department is urging parents with children of school-going age, starting high school or changing a school, to get the application forms on time to ensure that their children will be registered and admitted on time.

Parents are encouraged to seek schools that are closer to their homes or workplace. Set requirement age for Grade R is four turning five by 30 June and five turning six for Grade 1 by 30 June in the year 2020.

Documents required for beginners are: birth certificate copy, proof of parent’s identity and citizenship and child immunization card.  In case where learner is changing schools, the most recent report is required.

Schools are expected to inform parents of their application status seven days after the closing date. Those whose application is unsuccessful should be provided with reasons and can lodge a complaint.

Free State Education MEC, Dr Tate Makgoe, said that registering learners on time would ensure that the department would be in a better position to plan for the 2020 academic year. “The full use of teaching time during an academic year is necessary for sound academic performance,” said Makgoe.
