Larsen is hopeful despite heavy loss

LEE KHOTLELE

Bloemfontein – Newly appointed Roses United FC coach Clinton Larsen, is hopeful of his team’s survival in the National First Division regardless of recent results.

United are bottom of the log alongside Blackburn Rovers with 15 points and the former Celtic and Maritzburg United mentor told Courant Sport his side would have to start winning games if they were to avoid relegation.

“You have to win and pick up points. I think if we can get draws and victories in our remaining matches, then we can move away from where we find ourselves now,” Larsen said.

Larsen and his side were hoping for maximum points against Sivutsa Stars, who were demolished 6-1 by Black Leopards in their previous encounter.

However, it was not to be as Stars crashed United 3-0 at Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium on Wednesday, in Larsen’s second game at the helm.

In his first game his side was held by Witbank Spurs in a 0-all draw and Larsen highlighted it was a game they should have won.

“Keeping a clean-sheet and getting a point was a good step towards building the team towards the final games. Despite the recent results, we feel we’re getting better with every training session and hopefully we will be able to get much more improved results.”

In their next league encounters Roses travel to Cape Town to face Santos at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday before hosting Rovers.
