The Free State Police Management has recently established a Highway Patrol Unit in Ladybrand as part of adhering to the mission and vision of the South African Police Service which is to fight and combat crime.
Police spokesperson Martin Xuma says the Ladybrand Highway Patrol Unit will ensure visibility and patrol on the N8 and R26 roads between Hobhouse and Clocolan.
“Main functions of the members assigned to the Highway Patrol will be to do stop and search of vehicles, be on the look-out for stolen vehicles, dagga dealers, illegal immigrants and transporting of stolen stock to mention a few,” he says.
Xuma adds that Colonel Abram Raliopane the Ladybrand Cluster Commander welcomed the establishing of the Highway Patrol Unit with open arms and said it came at the right time as we are approaching the festive season more visibility and patrols will be conducted during the festive season and beyond.
