The Ladybrand Social Crime Prevention, Ladybrand Corporate Communication and Ladybrand K9 Unit members visited two farm schools namely Petrushoop and Assisi Intermediate School in the Ladybrand District today the 23 August 2013 as part of their programme of drug awareness campaign that will run up until November this year.
This idea came about as cops noticed that once learners from Primary School enter the High School stage they meet new friends and with new friends comes temptations and peer pressure. Therefore the police felt that it is their duty as part of eradicating crime to educate and warn the learners of the dangers of drugs.
This programme will focus on Manyatseng, Ladybrand and surrounding farm communities to educate and inform learners as well as teachers about different drugs, what the law says about drug users and dealers and the fight of drugs and drugs dealers by the Police.
W/O Jack Sefatsa with his friendly and skilled female Labrador dog named Tessa aged six years were there to educate the learners of the above mentioned schools about drugs. Tessa entertained the learners as she showed her skills and expertise in finding the hidden drugs.
One of the learners Nthabiseng Sekhwale, a Grade 8 learner, from Assisi Intermediate School thanked the Police on behalf of all the learners for coming to educate them about drugs. She further said that she also want to become a cop one day when she is done with her studies.
