Real Food is at the heart of the Week of Taste, inspired by the French concept la Semaine du Goût, initiated in France more than 20 years ago. The Week of Taste is about the sharing of food, knowledge and experiences, including tips and recipes from top chefs. This concept is brought to South Africa for the first time by various Alliance Française branches and the French Institute of South Africa, who has the aim of promoting cultural and intellectual links between South Africa and France.
Five French chefs will travel to South Africa and work with local chefs to demonstrate links between French and South African cuisine. The Alliance Française of Bloemfontein presents this unique French tasting event in collaboration with the Food and Beverage Institute.
The French chef who will visit Bloemfontein is Emeric Le Puil, a promising young chef originally from the Loire Valley. He started his career in 2007 at the Château de Chissay in Touraine. He then moved on to various famous restaurants such as Meurice in Paris and the Little O, a very popular traditional restaurant in the city of Tours. In 2012 he returned to Paris where he is currently chef at the Comte de Gascogne, an award winning restaurant in the West of Paris.
The South African chef who will participate with Emeric is Lesley Jacobs, co-founder of the Food & Beverage Institute. Lesley studied at the Free State Technikon. He has been in the industry since 1997, working at the Mount Nelson in Cape Town, the Saxon and the Michelangelo in Sandton. In 2003 he was awarded 3rd place at the renowned Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Jeunes Commi, an international cooking competition for young chefs.
This interactive food demonstration by these two chefs will take place at 18:15 on 22 May at the Food and Beverage Institute Chef School, 22 Faan Ferreira Ave., Langenhoven Park. Tickets cost R180 per person. For reservations or enquiries, please contact Linda Geldenhuys (geldenhuyslinda@gmail.com) or Daleen Krige (083-388-1184).
