Art enthusiasts and members of the community are called to join the Kyrios Independent School’s art festival which promises a day filled with fun and entertainment.

The mini arts festival will be hosted on the school grounds on Friday, 15 October between 09:00 and 16:00. Executive head at Kyrios, Mario Lategan, told Bloemfontein Courant they would like to create awareness of arts and culture among their learners and encourage young people to develop their God-given talents and explore different forms of art.

“We would like to create an open day arts festival to invite people to come and enjoy the hospitality of Kyrios, good music, food, art and drama in a safe ‘country style’ environment,” said Lategan.

The school has also introduced The Pop Art competition as part of the day where anyone can enter. The task is to create an artwork portraying any famous South African personality in an A2 format, in any medium. The winner walks away with a list of prizes including art materials, gift vouchers, a Raku workshop and more. To enter the art competition and for more information, send an email to

Lategan encouraged people to enter because at Kyrios they believe that one should “seize the day and be the best”. “One should always grab an opportunity to develop yourself and broaden your horizons,” Lategan added.

The Kyrios Arts Festival will include art exhibitions, puppet theatre, drama, culinary theatre, choir, video installation, classical music, stalls, competitions and more. Entrance to the day is free.

Well-known artists such as Cezanne Yzelle, Thabo Hlongwane, ThaRo, Auctavia, Fay Lamour, Ilné Fourie, Organized Chaos and many more are said to perform at the festival.
