The Varsity Netball kicked off this past weekend and it is safe to say that Bloemfontein can be very proud of the Kovsie side that started off the season with a bang.

Their first match, which was played on 26 August against the defending champions, UP Tuks, started the game with an early lead and ended on a high note beating the Pretoria side 68 – 43. Khomotso Mamburu was awarded with the FNB Player of the Match title.

The Kovsie side could once again give themselves a pat on the back when they played UJ on Monday 27 August. Kovsies beat UJ 69-29 in the final match of the second round that was played on the Kovsies’ home ground. Khomotso Mamburu was once again selected as the FNB Player of the Match.

After just two rounds, the Kovsie side, which is coached by Burta de Kock, is ranked second on the log with two out of two games won, putting up a total of 10 points on the log board. The Stellenbosch side, Maties, is ranked first at this stage and will face the Kovsie side in round 6 only on 10 September at Maties.

Varsity Netball has gone from strength to strength over the past five years and the 2018 season is set to be one of the best and most tightly-contested yet.
